Take Your Dog to Work Week: A Little History and How We're Going to Celebrate

Take Your Dog to Work Day was first started by Pet Sitters International in June of 1999. The day was created to celebrate dogs as companions and encourage adoptions from local shelters, rescue groups, and humane societies. By allowing employees to bring their dogs to work, it was the hope that dogless co-workers would be encouraged to adopt after enjoying a day with dogs at the office.

During the first Take Your Dog to Work Day, on June 24, 1999, an estimated 300 companies participated in the United States. Today, the annual event held the Friday after Father’s Day, is celebrated by hundreds of thousands in the United States, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, and New Zealand.

At Hollywood Feed, we’re fortunate enough to get to take our dogs to work every day. We know not everyone is as lucky as us, so we’re excited to share this special day with y’all. In order to make the day the best possible day at your office EVER, we’ll be posting all kinds of interesting and helpful information about making your dog’s day at the office the most successful it can be. Check back to read about the benefits of taking your dog to work, how to prepare your dog for a day at the office, and how to enter your furry co-worker in our Take Your Dog to Work Day Photo Contest for a chance to win a Kuranda dog bed! Get excited for the week! Trust us, your dog is pumped about going to work also!
